This workshop will engage participants in exploring how literacy can be incorporated into programming with diverse areas of focus in order to support youth academically alongside other benefits of programming. Downtown Boxing Gym will share how they have successfully created a model for this with the Center for Success. Detroit PAL will share how they are building this into athletic programming. Workshop will include opportunities for participants to share how they are puzzling through this in their own organizations, piloting this, and/or success they are having. The goals are to have us all come away better understanding: 1) the tremendous benefits of integrating literacy into summer programming; 2) models for what this could look like; 3) colleagues in this work who can serve as resources and learn and grow in doing this; and 4) how 313Reads can support.
Facilitated by: Maria Franklin (Detroit PAL), Heidi Miller (Center for Success), Katie Solomon (Downtown Boxing Gym), and Leah van Belle (313Reads)
